Partial Nail Avulsion Instructions

Partial Nail Avulsion Post-op Instructions

📝 What to Expect

You have undergone a partial nail avulsion to treat an ingrown or infected toenail. In this procedure, a portion of the nail was removed to relieve pain, infection, or chronic irritation.

🩹 Daily Wound Care Instructions

For the first 24 hours:

  • Keep the bandage clean, dry, and in place.
     
  • Do not remove the dressing unless advised otherwise.
     

Starting 24 hours after the procedure:

  1. Soak the toe once daily in warm water with Epsom salt:
     
    • Mix 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt in warm water.
       
    • Soak for 15–20 minutes.
       

  1. Pat the toe dry with clean gauze or a towel.
     
  2. Apply topical antibiotic (such as Mupirocin or Neosporin if prescribed).
     
  3. Cover with a clean Band-Aid or sterile dressing.
     
  4. Continue this routine daily for 10–14 days, or until otherwise directed.


         5.  Do not cover at night when sleeping to allow the area to dry.
