🎯 Purpose of the Night Splint
The night splint is used to gently stretch the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon to reduce morning pain and stiffness caused by conditions such as:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendinitis
- Calf tightness or heel pain
This splint holds your foot in a dorsiflexed (flexed upward) position to keep the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon lengthened while you rest.
✅ Instructions for Use
🔹 How Long to Wear
- Wear the splint for 30–60 minutes at a time.
- Use daily, ideally in the evening after activity or after a warm shower.
- Most patients benefit from gradually increasing wear time (start with 30 minutes, work up to 1 hour).
🔹 Do Not Sleep in the Splint
- This splint is NOT meant for overnight use.
- Do not wear it to bed — it is for short-duration stretching only while awake and seated or lying down.
🔹 How to Position Your Leg
- Your leg must remain fully extended (straight).
- Do not bend the knee while wearing the splint — this reduces the effectiveness of the stretch.
- Sit or lie down in a comfortable position with the foot slightly elevated if possible.
🧽 Tips for Comfort
- Wear a light sock to prevent rubbing or pressure on the skin.
- Make sure straps are snug but not too tight — circulation should not be restricted.
- If any numbness, tingling, or excessive discomfort occurs, remove the splint and contact our office.
🗓 Expected Results
- Most patients notice improvement in 2–4 weeks with consistent daily use.
- This is a supportive therapy and is often combined with other treatments like stretching, orthotics, or physical therapy.
📞 Contact Us If You Experience:
- Severe pain or cramping while using the splint
- Numbness or cold toes
- Skin irritation or redness
- No improvement after 4–6 weeks
